However, despite being the closest port to the sprawling capital city, cruisers can’t simply hop off the cruise ship and explore Rome as it’s over an hour away from the cruise port. Rome is a city that is rich in history and culture, with countless attractions that visitors can explore. The city's cruise port, Civitavecchia, is located approximately 80 km northwest of Rome, but there are still plenty of nearby attractions that visitors can enjoy.

cruise port rome

If you are journeying to Civitavecchia from Fiumicino Airport, you will first need to take a train into Rome’s city center, which takes 30 minutes. You will then take the train to Civitavecchia, which takes just over 1 hour. The majority of cruises that arrive at Civitavecchia Cruise Port are keen to explore Italy’s alluring capital city – Rome. Therefore, in this list, I will give you the best shore excursions that take place in Rome. If you wish to take a taxi, you will first need to take the shuttle bus from your cruise ship to Largo della Pace and then take a taxi from here.

The best way to reach Largo della Pace is to take the free shuttle buses. If you don’t fancy getting the train, you can take a taxi from Largo della Pace straight to Rome’s city center. A typical taxi ride will take just over an hour, so there’s little time-saving in taking a taxi over the train.

This stunning Mediterranean village is 50 miles northwest of the capital city. Rome's influence on art, intellect, politics and religion helped shape the Western world, and much from its storied past still can be seen today. Culinary tours venture to vineyards and groves for wine sips and olive oil dips. To get to the Civitavecchia train station, use the Port Shuttle Bus. See port shuttle bus for information about various shuttles for getting out of the port area to where you want to go. Should you arrive at Civitavecchia Port and are unsure of something or need more information you can visit the information kiosk.

Rome (Civitavecchia) is on Central European Time (CET), 1 hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Italy and Rome (Civitavecchia) observe daylight saving time/summer time during the summer and therefore use CEST (Central European Summer Time), which is 2 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Cruise passengers to Rome should also visit other religious sites with rare masterworks and unique architectural features. The sculpture of Moses by Michelangelo is on display in San Pietro in Vincoli (Saint Peter in Chains). Once you choose your cruise, book directly through the respective cruise line’s website.

Overall, by keeping these tips and information in mind, travelers can have a smooth and enjoyable experience when visiting Rome via cruise. Tipping in Italy is not mandatory, but it's always appreciated for good service. It's common to leave a small amount of change or round up the bill in restaurants and cafes. It's also important to note that some establishments may charge a service fee, so it's always good to check the bill before leaving a tip. One of the popular dining options near the port is King Edwards, which is known for its sandwiches and pub-style food. It is a great place to grab a quick bite or a drink, especially late at night.

The Ultimate Guide to Carnival Vista

vista cruise ship

The Grand Dining Room (2-decks high MDR) offers an expanded menu (with new items from Chef Jacques Pepin), daily-changing appetizers, soups, salads, entrees. Unlike the other fleetmates, Oceania's ship Vista has no Oceanview (cabins with non-opening windows) and Interior cabins (without windows). The glamourous atrium is the place to see and be seen aboard Vista (and is instantly Instagrammable -- expect to see plenty of passengers posing there). But it also sets the tone for Vista's interior décor, which presents itself as delightfully lavish and endlessly interesting. Don't expect stale pastels and minimalist design here; Vista has a bold, imaginative interior design palette that brings hues of champagne and caviar, accented with healthy splashes of gold and nautical hues.

Oceania Vista - user reviews and comments

I could enjoy a multi-course sit-down lunch or take my pick of eight burgers at the grill. Vista also had plenty of options for between-meal grazing – a quiche from the Bakery, a scone at Horizons' afternoon tea, or a cookie from the Concierge Lounge. Vista is clearly a ship for travelers who love to explore new destinations, prioritize fine dining and premium beverages and immerse themselves in chic surroundings. However, in the cruise space, this ship is clearly in the upscale category and not true luxury.

The water park features Carnival Cruise Line's first raft-riding water tube slide — at 455-feet-long — you will have an exhilarating time. You can also relax at the three pools and head to the huge sports area for some family fun time at a ropes course, mini-golf and more. Cold-pressed juices with ingredients like coconut, ginger, beets, and turmeric were a nice touch, as well as zero-proof cocktails, like the Skinny Mimosas, made with nonalcoholic sparkling wine. The christening cruise sailed from Rome to Rome, with stops in Naples; Valletta, Malta; and Ajaccio, France in between. (Vista will spend most of 2023 in Western Europe, then move to North America and the Caribbean.) We had an overnight in Valletta, something Oceania is working to do more of, along with offering more late-night stays for single-day ports, so that guests can spend more time on land.

Polo Grill (98-seats) is a complimentary Steakhouse restaurant but reservations are required. All beef-based dishes are with 28-day dry-aged (USDA-certified) Black Angus Prime Beef. The menu also includes premium seafood (like Grilled Swordfish and Maine Lobster Au Gratin). A Cloud 9 Spa Suite is the ultimate in both stateroom and spa accommodations. There's room for you and your things — with a large room and balcony — and a walk-in closet.

I happily ordered cocktail after craft cocktail at the Founders Bar in the name of research, trying drinks with smoke bubbles on top, frozen fruit balls in their center and unique ingredients (like tea) in their centers. Instead, the line suggests "elegant casual resort wear" for evenings and requests that guests do not wear casual jeans, shorts, T-shirts, baseball caps, casual sandals or sneakers in the restaurants after 6 p.m. Each night, there's a show in the Vista Lounge, either a guest performer or a typical cruise ship song and dance show by the onboard performers. One of the new shows on Vista was choreographed by Britt Stewart, a professional dancer who's worked with "Dancing with the Stars." An Oceania cruise is a destination-focused trip, so onboard activities are kept to a minimum. You'll find trivia contests, spa seminars, casino tournaments and technology classes at the LYNC Digital Center, such as travel photography and photo editing for social media. Watching a first-run Hollywood blockbuster in Carnival Vista’s® IMAX theater is immersive and exciting, with images so big and sounds so crisp you’ll feel like you’re actually in the movie. A bucket of popcorn doesn’t stand a chance as action stars and big screen romance sweep you off of your feet and put you in the middle of a true cinematic experience. While we understand those are some lofty claims, we promise this is one of those rare occasions where your expectations are met and then some.

Such as her sister ships Marina and Riviera, Oceania ship Vista sports some of cruising's most palatial rooms, featuring furnishings from Ralph Lauren Home and layouts by Dakota Jackson of New York and S.B. The cruise liner also has a Lalique-designed grand lobby, ten restaurants and many bars and lounges. Amenities include a full-service Aquamar SPA, Bon Appetit Culinary Center (for demos and cooking classes), and the Aquamar Kitchen by Wine Spectator wine bar lounge. In addition, Norwegian Sun will offer warm weather escapes with a five-day Bermuda cruise November 22 and three, 12-day voyages to the Caribbean on November 27, December 9 and December 21. With both Norwegian Cruise Line ships now in play and two other cruise lines also offering cruises from Baltimore, guests have many options for their next cruise, be it exploring the autumnal beauty of New England or soaking in the Caribbean sun. The newest addition to Baltimore, Norwegian Sun, at 78,309 gross tons, will introduce a different flavor. Beginning its sailings on November 22, this ship is scheduled to sail five and 12-day trips that cover the sun-kissed locations of the Dominican Republic and Bermuda. This five-night cruise to Bermuda will spend two days at King’s Wharf and two days at sea.

Port of Baltimore Welcomes New Cruise Line To Maryland

Cruise travel is rapidly growing from the Port of Baltimore, not only offering great travel opportunities to millions of potential passengers, but also offering significant contributions to the local economy. Located right off Interstate 95, the port is convenient to more than 40 million people within a 6-hour drive. Norwegian Sky embarks today on a 10-day New England and Canada cruise, with visits to Martha’s Vineyard; Boston; Bar Harbor, Maine; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Sydney, Cape Breton Island; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; Saguenay, Quebec; and Quebec City.

The Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore on Friday welcomed Norwegian Cruise Line to Maryland. For the first time in Norwegian's history, two of its ships will have a home port in Maryland, Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun. Norwegian Cruise Line launched its first season from Baltimore, offering new fall and winter voyages to New England and Canada, Bermuda and the Caribbean. The Norwegian Sky kicked off sailings from Baltimore on Friday with a 10-day voyage to New England and Canada, including stops in Martha’s Vineyard, Boston, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec. Starting in November, the Norwegian Sun will sail from the city to Bermuda as well as to the Caribbean.

Norwegian Sky will then return to Baltimore in reverse order with slightly different ports of call, offering even more variety if guests choose to enjoy back-to-back sailings. Both cruise lines sail from the port on a year-round basis, offering itineraries to varied destinations, including the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada and more. With visits to several ports in the region, the ten- and 11-night cruises will be operated in the open-jaw format, sailing between Baltimore and Quebec City.

Its initial voyage from Baltimore starts on September 1, a ten-night Canada and New England cruise. Norwegian Cruise Line confirms the deployment of not one but two of its cruise ships to Baltimore this year. Following the September 2022 announcement of the Norwegian Sky cruises starting September 1, 2023, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Sun is also sailing from Baltimore beginning November 22, 2023.

Following a cruise industry-wide pause during the pandemic, Baltimore’s passenger counts have strongly rebounded, with its ships currently sailing at full capacity. Baltimore’s cruise terminal is located right off Interstate 95 and offers plenty of onsite parking. "Our cruise terminal's unique location allows for easy access for cruise passengers from many Eastern and Midwestern states," Brian Miller, interim acting executive director of the Port of Baltimore, said in a statement.

Norwegian Sky embarks today on a 10-day Canada and New England cruise, with visits to Martha’s Vineyard; Boston; Bar Harbor, Maine; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Sydney, Cape Breton Island; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; Saguenay, Quebec; and Quebec City. On September 21, Norwegian Sky will sail on an 11-day Canada and New England voyage. The ship will offer several iconic autumn voyages showcasing the best of New England and Canada, and later in the winter, Norwegian Sun will also homeport from Baltimore for a series of Bermuda and Caribbean sailings. Norwegian Cruise Line has officially added Baltimore as a new homeport with fall foliage sailings as well as winter Caribbean cruises.

The Norwegian Sun will offer a five-day Bermuda cruise departing on November 22 and three as well as 12-day Caribbean itineraries. Norwegian Cruise Line has returned to the Port of Baltimore, joining Carnival Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean. The choice of Norwegian Cruise Line to deploy two ships to Baltimore is not surprising. Cruise lines recommend that every passenger have a passport when traveling, even on closed-loop cruises when one isn't strictly necessary. It's the best way to prove your identification and citizenship and is an essential item if you unexpectedly get stranded abroad. It's also less cumbersome than carrying the required documents and papers with you wherever you go. If you don't have a passport, these documents may also be sufficient to show customs officials in some Caribbean islands.
